Though
it appears solid, Jorge Portela’s
work is shaken by unsettling effects.
The frequent use of new digital techniques
in his work reveals a profound reflection
about the limits of painting and photography.
In the series “7 Virtual
Sins”, “Perfection” or “Misplacements”,
the photographic essence is present:
in a dynamic pictorial transmutation,
in the case of the first one, and within
a more conceptual context in the other
two series.
In “Group Photo”,
Portela creates a hybrid formula that
combines techniques that comes close
to collage.
Finally, in “Virtual City” and “Z Series” the artist achieves an almost absolute
synthesis, taking the digital technique
to a limit of creation of a visual art
already unclassifiable in the traditional
standards.
